Today my history teacher said this: If you aren't a feminist then you are sexist. Do you agree or disagree? I want real thought out answers. Can we please not turn this into an argument or a place to bash people you disagree with? I'd like to hear your position and reasons why you feel that way.

But my opinion is, just because I am for equality for women doesn't make me a feminist. Would you disagree? If I support equality for women, I am a feminist was his point.
He talked also about feminism is not what it used to be. When was the last time you saw a rally or 'bra-burning' or anything like that? Today's feminists are women who may be married, have kids, work in the home, etc. They just support equality. I don't know if I agree though...

Evertt K: That's what I was wondering. I feel they are mutually exclusive. It's like saying, if you're tall then you're skinny and if you're short you're fat, which isn't true. I can be a sexist who is feminist (I can be sexist toward men).

Well, I am a woman and view feminists AS sexist. So, I would start with that flaw. I have a strong dislike for feminists. Feminism in general has not furthered the womans cause. It has done more damage than good. Okay, so now I can have the CEO job. But, that is assuming I want the CEO job. Really, the break down of the family and the homogenizing of gender roles has done wonders for our divorce rate. Instead of women bringing their own qualities to a job, most power hungry women more closely resemble a man in what they will do to get ahead. So, again, I do not see the feminist movement as a good thing. I see it as something that has brought us financial success at the cost of our family and personal relationships.

Apples and oranges. There are feminist adult men. Being a guy isn't a call, you're born that way. Being a feminist is a call, like being a Republican. Are you implying adult men pick to be adult men or do you think of feminists are born that way?

Nonsense. Feminism, as it goes today, is as much a political position as it is anything else. It is perfectly possible not to be sexist and still not embrace the feminist point of view. I consider myself a feminist in the old sense - i.e. one's gender does not determine one's abilities or destiny. That being said, I emphatically don't agree with the current feminist positions on, for instance, abortion. I seriously doubt that makes me a sexist.

You tell you teacher that feminist died in the 70's along with diso that seixst still exsist but are in the hills as the comedy of Jeff Foxworthry has proven. Real Women have run this country and allways will, from Marhta washington to Hillarry Clinton, women have run this county and these and all othrer real women will not give up that power to the 10% of females who do not understand what a women is. Women can be powers of industry also and are dam good at it but that is a differnt story. Power and respect allways hit the head when it is MOM and beleive it or not MOM can do anything and I know becauese I try to be,try, to be a dad.

I am a feminist but I don't think that just because another women isn't one means that she is sexist. Some women have personal issues that they want to fight for that other's don't view as important. IE lesbian rights in my case. I have respect for all women even if I don't agree with their view points.

now does that work the other way around?
i'm for equality as above but it applies to the race question also. on applications i always mark other: Human
i won't take a standard label that some dead man placed way before i was born i don't think any one alive today can say that they don't dislike some one but judging some one by their sex, race,or religion is just ignorance they could end up a new friend or even save your life

I disagree. some feminists are for equality some are for women. im for equality. im not a feminist but i am for equality for women which i feel like i have. there's always going to be someone arrogant who looks down on you for whatver reason they can. thats not sexist thats superiority compensating for inner inferiority.

No, feminism is bordering on sexism. I'm not a feminist but I do believe both genders should be treated equally.

Sounds like major discrimination to me either way!
I don't allow anyone to push me into a corner of that type and will ALWAYS reserve the right to determine what is what. Not have anyone else define it for me!
Political correctness be damned.

I would agree with that - a feminist can be female or male and supports womens rights and treats them like equals.
If you dont support a woman as your equal then you are sexist.
