I think by now, Americans understand that we're committed when it comes to the war on terror and finishing what we started in Iraq. Tax dollars, man hours, and lives. We are up to our noses in committment in our attempts to turn war torn Iraq's infrastructure into a state of semblence. Just the other day, President Bush said that the war in Iraq is talking a toll on America's pysche. But we're also committed to building a free Iraq. Having said that, he now wants to recall Marine reservists for yet another tour in Iraq? Committed, committed, committed. I hate that word. It's high time for the Iraqi leadership, and the Iraqi government to get off their rear, act like they got a pair, and start running their own friggin' country. I'm sure that there are Iraqi citizens who want nothing more than to rid themselves of Americans so that they can start living their own lives, free of Marines, and Soldiers patrolling their streets. I'm not sure how you feel or if you even care?

Difficult situation to say the least, but I too empathize with your feelings albeit for different reasons. Iraq, like Viet Nam is a place that the US never should have gone. We and our troops were lead there (in my opinion) by a government that seeks nothing more than to line its own pockets. Iraq, like Viet Nam, has and had been a war zone for years and anyone with a brain would have known that change was not going to come easy and certainly not within 5 years. We are speaking about cultural change which takes a lifetime and is a much more farsighted goal. The US does not think long-term which is why we got engaged in this nasty conflagration in the first place. In our arrogance the US government felt that it was going to go in and change the hearts and minds of a smaller country with the praises of democracy, which now our troops are paying for with their lives.

As an objective history lesson, go back and see how long Japan was governed by the U. S. Military. It might surprise you.

Nation building isn't something that takes "a few years", it takes perserverance to build a stable, lasting democratic government and that perserverance may take a decade or more.

p.s. if you look at the casualty figures coming from Iraq, there are fewer GIs being killed. The deaths these days are from the secular infighting that is going on between the Shi'ia and the Sunni sects of the Muslim religion.

If America moved out Iraq would be in terrorists hands within days.

my boss in Hr was recalled to iraq....and our softlines manager just returned after being injured in iraq after being recalled. They knew what they were getting into when they signed up for the military and they do what they must. Its their job- and they love their country. So dont blame bush for calling on the soliders when the soliders are the ones who signed up in the first place....if they didnt want to fight then they shouldnt of joined. Point blank. And as far as iraq is concerned... they need help...why are you against helping other people who are in need.

I care, and you said everything that needs to be said. I sure don't want to be recalled again.
