Isn't the question really, "what does it mean to be human?" No one is disturbed when a single human cell dies. Or a sperm, or an egg. I don't think that becoming a full fledged human being happens in an instant, like flicking an on/off switch. How "human" does a mass of cells have to be before it merits a status of protection? Any answer to that question really is arbitrary. Do we wait until it has a heart beat? A brain? Do those things matter?
The problem here is that there is so much anger surrounding this issue that compassion has been left behind. We've put aside true caring in favor of deciding what is permissible. I've never been a fan of arbitrary legalism.
As for a mother's "rights"...well, if no one can define when a mass of cells becomes a human being, then why should we trust a government to do that for us? Each of us should make up our own minds about that. The mother and the father should discuss that together, if possible.

I think that the mother always has the right to decide. I would much rather hear that someone had an abortion than that their pimp raped their child that was only 5 or that they were sold in to prostitution like little girls in Thailand. With so many children being abused each year, I think that people need to start speaking up for the ones that can remember the abuse that they have sustained and stop worrying about what God will say to people who aborted ones that are not here yet.

Some say it is some say it isn't who knows. Put it this way if u had a live child and it got terminally i"ll and someone was going to abort a 6 week old fetus and u knew that that stem cell from that fetus would cure your child and your child would live. Would you say no. Scientist say the fetuses heart does not beat until after the 10th or so week. So if the heart does not beat then does that mean it not a living soul. Split decision. I know what my answer would be my child would live. As for the right of the mother yes she should have a say in it because it her body and her life but if she is a slut and just goes out having babies and aborts them every time then hell no take her rights away and adopt the child out. But on the other hand will she take care of her self while she's carrying the child will it come out as another misfit of society. another flip of the coin. So who can really say. You have to do what is going to give u peace I personally could not abort a child but I will not stop someone else from doing what they feel is best for them.

NO absolutely not. You're aborting a fetus, which is not yet a human being. Anybody else that says differently is ignoring scientific fact for their own warped religious views.
The right is with the woman and every woman should have the right to decide whether to abort or not.
Comparing aborting a fetus to killing a disabled person and elderly person or even just an older child is just absurd. Those people are human beings - not fetuses. That;s why there are two terms. One is murder and the other is called abortion.
As for the father to be, he should have a say - but since he's not yet a father, ultimately it is still a woman's choice, because she is the one who has to carry the fetus to term.

My opinion is this...abortion is murder...its not like the baby was the one laying down and opening its legs for him to come about..The baby has no say on when hes coming or if he wants to be part of this world...now yes there are circumstances where women were raped and get pregnant or so but dont you think adoption where the baby can live would be a more responsible way of thinking...Abortion is just another run away from a problem

Murder is a pretty strong word. At what point does life begin? At conception? At first breath? Or at a specific point in between. I have no idea when that point would be. Considering not all pregnancies are the same length. If you consider that a plant or a bacterium is living, then I would imagine an embryo is living as well. Legally, foetuses have no rights. But a pregnant netball player was suspended from her team because they couldn't get insurance in case the foetus sustained an injury, and then when it grew up it would earn the right to sue.

A very tough & sensitive subject.
As much as I would like to go with the majority in agreeing that the act is murder, I feel when a woman makes the conscious choice to abort her child... it is hers and her alone to have come to that conclusion.

What about the father doesnt he have the right to know or the right to deside too! The baby doesnt even get a right to say anything weather it wants to be born or not. Mother she has all the rights to do with her body as she chooses but as it being murder yes it is. Can you live with a murder on your hands ?

Of course it is! The mother DID decide. She decided to have sex! What happens after that is up to God. It's out of the mother's hands now. Why don't we just make it legal for a mother to kill her babies if she gets tired of them? Free Susan Smith. Let Andrea Yates go. They were just exercising their right to decide!!! Of course that sounds like a stupid idea, and it's just as stupid to let these OTHER murderers roam the streets (in other words the women who have also murdered their children, but did it the legal way.)
And babies DO have nerves so they do feel. My daughter was born at 27 weeks gestation (instead of the usual 40 weeks). She definitely felt pain. During her hospital stay I saw babies as young as 23 weeks. They felt pain. And you just let someone burn your skin off, or pull you apart, or shove a vacuum hose into your brain, and we'll see if it hurts or not.
