Sunrise and sunset are misnomers. The fact is the Earth turns on its axis from west to east, creating for us standing on Earth the illusion that the Sun --or moon or stars -- rises and sets. As we spin into the Earth's shadowed side, away from the Sun, what we experience is what we call Night. As we turn into the Sunlight, we call that Day. Again, that the Sun appears to dip to and sink below our western horizon and then edge up and emerge above the eastern horizon, is only a condition of our being on a turnstile. Like many other time related questions, we need to consider a diferent perspective than our ego- and geo-centeric positions. For example...our 24 hour day, our 7-day week, our month and year are mere conventions based on misconceptions about how the Universe and we in it move. In fact, days, weeks and years are not cyclical...we don't return to the same point in space...we are constantly moving forward on Spaceship Earth that moves in a corkscrew fashion through our Galaxy whicn in turn spins about and drives forward on its own directed pathway.

Let me explain it like you're a 6 year old.
Sunrise: the sun is rising therefore it can only happen in the morning.
Sunset: the sun is setting because it is sleepy so it only can only happen before night
