Chew your food before you put it down the drain. You should get a disposal - all the food particles and grease add up to a clog. In the mean time Drano or plunge it & Don't wash your dishes in the toilet - that's just wrong.

To drain the sink, you can take the curved pipe loose from underneath the sink itself. Make sure to put a bucket or something there to catch the water. Usually a clog will sit near that bend or just past it. You can get what's called a "snake" from a hardware store and try to remove the clog. Good luck!

easy solution (usually)

get a bucket and put it under the U joint (trap) under the sink. Untighten the large washer, you may be able to loosen it by hand. As it comes loose, hold it in place as the water drains into the bucket. Then, remove the joint and clean it out. To be sure you have the entire clog out, use a snake (augger) to clear the exit side of the plumbing. Don't have one? Unfold a wire coathanger and swish it around in there.

deg has the answer. Get a plunger, the flat cup type, center it on the drain and start plunging vigorously. You may get wet but I'll bet you clear the drain. Unless you know plumbing, you'll get into trouble pulling pipes apart. I have never had to use chemicals to clear a sink drain. My plunger worked every time. Plus it is cheaper and safer.

Get a 5-gallon bucket and pull the p-trap. Clean the trap by flushing it with water in the toilet bowl. Rent a sink snake from your local hardware store and snake the drain line as far as you can. Put the trap back together and you'll know why plumbers charge so much.

I go to Lowe's and Home Depot and buy a drain cleaner in a bottle. It works great. My kitchen sink tends to get clogged sometimes and this drain cleaner does the trick. It is not expensive.

Go ahead and bail out the water. Then you can try to pour some baking soda in and add vinegar. This will create a bubbling that sometimes clears up clogs. If that doesn't work, you can try a plunger, either try pushing it down, or create suction and try to draw everything up. Gross, but sometimes it works. Try Draino if those options don't work.

baking soda and vinegar
pour baking soda down the drain about 1/2 box
then pour at least 1 cup vinegar over the soda, it will bubble up.
leave in drain/sink for awhile. pour boiling hot water down drain
it works for me and sweetens the pipes too.

I would try a plunger first. You may be lucky and that will do the job without having to bail out the water.
