I forgot the BIOS password on my laptop and can't access anything. I have tried the keydisk, and the parallel loopback key but it doesn't work. If I could boot a floppy at startup, I could flash the BIOS. F12 is the keystroke to select boot devices, but as soon as I press this, it asks for the password again. Does anyone know how to get around this so I can boot from a floppy and use my computer?

In response to Whatever!, I have already opened the case and the CMOS battery is nowhere to be found on the motherboard. I know what the battery looks like but I can't find it anywhere.

You can not boot from a floppy, but you may be able to clear the BIOS password. First check the Toshiba website because with some PCs there is a switch on the system board that clear the BIOS password. That is the easiest eay.

If not, unplug the laptop, remove the regular battery, then open the laptop case and look for an internal battery (Again the Toshiba web site should help you locating it). Remove that battery. Let the laptop sit for a while (usually five minutes will do it). Reboot and the BIOS password should be gone.

Whatevers answer is correct but not quite so simple in a laptop. In a tower or desktop computer the motherboard is easy to get to and finding the bios reset jumper or the bios battery is pretty easy. On the Sattelite the only panels that are easily accessible are the memory panels and the main battery panel.

Unless you are very very comfortable disassembling your computer take it to a Toshiba authorized repair shop, they can reset it for you....

if your BIOS is configure to boot on floppy drive first before your hard disk, then you have a chance to boot on floppy... but if not your bios will always boot to hard disk because it is primary booting device.... just try to boot floopy...
but if cant boot on floppy, you have no choice but to open your laptop and take out the BIOS jumper or take take out the battery, in order to remove the passwords store on your BIOS..
