In California, you need a class M2 permit/license for anything that's "149cc or less engine size". A class M1 permit/license allows you to ride a real motorcycle and/or a moped/motor-driven cycle/motorized bicycle. If it's just a "scooter" then you need a regular license.

In Texas, you need a motorcycle operator's license with a moped restriction. You can get this with just a written test and no riding test.

Depends on where you are.
In NH, you can operate a moped with an Operator's (car)
a motorcycle, or a moped only licence.

If you get pulled over, gotta have one!
