At time t = 5 seconds, the position of a model car is 6 meters. At time t = 10 seconds, the position is 14 meters. Determine the average speed of the car for this time interval by calculating the slope between these two points. The time is plotted on the x-axis.t

10 - 5 =5 the interval is 5 seconds
14 - 6 = 8 the distance is 8 meters
8/5 of a meter per second 1 3/5 m/s

Take graph paper and mark the horizontal axis t and the vertical axis x. The problem gives you two points on the paper; plot these and connect them with a straight line. But the problem can be easily solved arithmetically: the car moves 8 meters in 5 seconds, so its speed is 1.6 meters per second.

hi
assuming the speed is constant for each 5 seconds time (without acceleration) the first speed would be 6/5 m/s and the second one would be 8/5 m/s so the average would be 14/10 = 7/5 m/s
you have to calculate the speed for the 2 different movements and then find the average,

t=5 , the car is 6 metres
t=10, the car is 14 metres
In 5 seconds, the car travels 8 metres.
The average speed is 5/8 metres per second
Which is 0.625metres/seconds
You can draw it on a graph.
t on the y axis
metres on the x axis.
And you'll see that everytime y rises by 5, x increases by 8.
Slope is rise/run, which is y/x
So the slope is 5/8, which is also the average.

slope is change in y over change in x
distance is y so difference is 8 meters
time is x so difference is 5 seconds
8/5 equals 1.6 meters per second

Slope of a line is (change in y) / (change in x).
In your example, y is distance (or position), and x is time.
To find change, subtract the end value from the beginning value.
So, change in y = (14m - 6m)
Change in x = (10s - 5s)
Slope = (14m - 6m) / (10s - 5s) = average speed of model car (in m/s)
