Not everyone is that way. There are so many good hearted people in this world . It's just that the media inundates us with the stories of the rich & famous. I think true riches are families & friends. I consider myself wealthy beyond understanding because I have a large, very loving & helpful family & very close friends all over the country. I really don't care whether I ever become famous or not. Fame is so fleeting unless it is for something great such as the kind Mother Theresa had. I do/can not claim that for myself .

Because money is a universal language to every person in a so-called civilized society and those with the power and money to help those without it don't want to share it. The US is a great example of this. Rich and powerful people (read: mostly hard right Republican conservatives) don't want universal healthcare because they can get healthcare anytime they want- why should they have to give up a greater share of their money to help those less fortunate? Another example: President Bush's response to the Katrina disaster. He stayed on his ranch after it happened and his Secretary of State, Condi Rice, was shopping and going to broadway shows versus going back to the White House in a timely fashion to help with all the offers from both allies and adversaries of help. And those affected areas are still in dire shape a year later. You would expect this in maybe a third world country- not in the mightiest country on earth. It is sad but true: most powerful rich people with a hard right conservative mindset have little empathy for those beneath them- and these are the people currently running the USA now.

We share a common ancestor with apes. To understand human culture, look at other primates. Look at all living things...survival of the fittest. Money equals power equals success in reproducing and survival. Those that take care of themselves and their immediate family stand the best chance of survival. Bottom line....it's all about survival.
When survival and things that make survival more likely are not at risk, people help people, but one must have priorities. Altruism is good and fine, but it doesn't pay the rent, put food on the table or gas in the car.
Get a grip. Life is a female dog. Get used to it.

Don't you mean, "Why is the west so cruel?" If you think money speaks in America, try Russia. No better yet, try China. Even better, North Korea or Cuba.
Don't be a 'Freethinker Slave'. It isn't the fault of the mountain that people want to climb it.

When money speaks... you listen. That has been the culture since time immemorial. Money is power. Money can move mountains. Money can buy love. Money can buy happiness. Whoever said otherwise is a damn liar, or is trying to compensate for his lack of money.
You know what I say? Money is not power. Money cannot move mountains. Money will never buy love or happiness.

It's likley that you're spending too much time around people who suck the life out of you. If you attract this kind of behaviour in others, you might want to look at yourself, and see what it is that's making your own life so miserable.
Yes, poeple don't care. You have to be the one to set the example, and if you're successful, you inspire others to set an example as well.

Because people react to money. We've become greedy.
We are also tired of being disrespected when our opinions differ from our neighbors. If we don't agree with their thinking, they put us down.
People need to learn to be more tolerant. I am entitled to my opinion. It doesn't have to be the same as yours. Doesn't mean I won't like you or that I won't help you if you need help.
Just don't ask me for a loan.

Where I live, we help each other out a lot...I mean, there are a lot of shmucks, put there are also a lot of people just waiting to make someone's day, and people in general seem to be pretty decent.
