Gout is an inflammatory condition caused by a build up of uric acid in the body. My clients have had success using a product called UltraInflam-X. The compounding pharmacy in my town sells it. You should be able to find it at a health food store. Get in touch with SoulDoctor on Answers. I'm sure he can come up with the names of some homeopathics for you. You could also try Dr. Lamar's Miracle II Neutralizer. Take it internally as well as use it topically over the affected areas. Don't know why this stuff works, but it's worked on everything I've used it on!

Gout initially affects the joints in the big toe. Sometime during the course of the disease, gout will affect the big toe in about 75 percent of patients. It also can affect the instep, ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows. Gout is caused by an excessive blood level of uric acid, a waste product formed from the breakdown of purines. These are substances found naturally in your body as well as in certain foods, especially organ meats.

I don't know what causes gout, but I have heard that drinking 4 oz of real cherry juice twice a day will get rid of it -- at least of the symptoms. You have to check the label to be sure it's real cherry juice, not cherry-flavored fruit juice (most common are apple or grape with a little cherry juice for the flavor) that you're getting.

Need to confirm that it is gout first by seeing a doctor Then prevention is by avoiding foods high in purines ( nucleic acids, which are metabolized to urate crystals that deposit in joints and cause gout) these foods include red meats some green leafy vegetables tomatoes, also alcohol can precipitate attacks. there are also medication that can be used to reduce irate production in the body , again check with your doctor

All I have ever heard about the gout my daddy had it in his foot. You need to stay away from liver and fish. These seem to bring it on or make it worse

rojoe got the 'what is it?' part down, so here's how you treat it:

-liver and kidney cleanse and detoxification
-treatment of obesity or diabetes if present, as they seem to predispose an attack
-decrease sugar intake, as it increases uric acid production
-decrease fat intake, as it decreases uric acid excretion
-increase water intake, as it contibutes to urine dilution and further elimination of unwanted substances
-greatly restrict foods rich in purines: organ meats, meats, sardines, anchovies, dried legumes, spinach, asparagus.
-excessive alcohol may elicit an attack by releasing lactic acid
-beer should be avoided because of it's high level of purines
-milk should be avoided because it contains an enzyme (xantine oxidase) which can increase uric acid levels

Food therapy:
-we've all heard about the cherries (they reduce uric acid levels)
-raw potato juice may increase the excretion of uric acid
-charcoal tablets may reduce uric acid levels by carrying it out of the digestive tract

Supplements:
-quercitin (200-400 mg 3x/day) may inhibit uric acid production
-flax seed oil (1 tbsp/day)
-folic acid (25 mg 3x/day) inhibits the enzyme responsible for uric acid production

Other Measures:
-bromelain, devil's claw, curcumin for inflammation (there are topical applications available)
-raw apple and cucumber juice may help to relieve the severity and incidence of attacks
-celery seed tea is cleansing and helps eliminate excessive uric acid
-crushed cabbage leaves in a local compress may alleviate the pain
-massage the sore joint with lavender, frankinsense and grapeseed oils
-other oils that can be used: pine, rosemary, or juniper.

I hope this helps you, and maybe someone else, too!
Tabitha.
