could anyone give me a down-to-earth answer as to what ovulation is? is it during a woman's "period"? or is it before? or after? I mean this in the reference of actuall "bleeding", to further clarify things. Does ovulation occur after the "bleeding"? or before? And what is ovulation? is it the release of a fertile egg? or the development thereof? Please, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I'm a guy, and yes, I know how strange it may sound to you for me wanting to know such things. Thanks in advance.

The menstrual cycle begins with the first day of bleeding. Ovulation is when an egg is released from the ovary, usually mid-cycle, or 14 days after the first day of the menstrual period. The egg travels into the fallopian tubes and if it is fertilized within 24-48 hours it will travel down to the uterus and implant itself into the uterine wall and develop into a baby. If the egg does not get fertilized, the uterine lining (which has become thick and spongy in case of fertilization) is shed and that is the woman's period, which happens about 14 days after ovulation. The average length of a woman's menstrual cycle is 28 days, but many (most) woman have longer or shorter cycles, so the number of days before and after ovulation can vary from woman to woman.

Ovulation is the process in which the egg leaves the ovary and makes its way down the fallopian tube. If the egg isn't ferilized with in 24-48 hours after leaving the ovary it dies which causes the period. Ovulation occurs about 12-14 days before a period. If the egg is ferilized then it should implant on to the wall of the uterus and therefore a woman is pregnant.

ovulation is the process of producing an egg. when the egg is produced is different in every woman, and can also change the the course of her life, but it will often be around the middle of her menstrual cycle. around that date, a few days before it and a few days after because of the average lifespan of eggs and sperms, the woman is most likely to conceive during intercourse. if no conception takes place, the egg will eventually be evacuated along with the built up endometrium during the next period and the cycle will begin again.
