You have to find a way that they won't know what you are talking about and turn them down, with some excuse that sounds like you did your best to get a yes but couldn't do it for reasons outside of your ability.

Sometimes No is said as just no. I would let them know that they are important and that you value them as client but what they are asking isn't possible. If they are looking for a personal relationship then it shouldn't be no, it should be hell no. It isn't ethical really for a client to expect you to lower your values just because of something that they want and may be against your morals. If I am off base then I am sorry. No is still no. If it becomes to hard to handle then let your manager handle this client or have a different agent handle them.

Hopefully there's another alternative to what the client wants to do. Suggest alternatives instead of actually saying "no, your idea stinks."

Explain why the answer is no before you say no. Say something like "because of ........ I have to say no" and then suggest some alternatives that may work for them.

Look at him, smile politely and say, "My answer is..." Then pause a moment and rip a huge, stinky fart. Then giggle. They'll get the "drift"
