boyfriend alone b/c he is in the marines. She think he might be abusive, but i disagree w/ that. I really love him...i think he will never do anything like that. People say that when someone comes out of the marine...they start actin crazy.

At first I thought, your mother was crazy. but then, I got to thinking. Could it be that she is using the Marine Corps as an excuse to justify why she doesn't like this guy?

I am a middle-aged man with grown children. I know I see things in my kids friends and lovers that they don't see. Not just Character flaws but strengths as well. I've seen them surprised by how a friend abandoned them or stood by them when they didn't expect it themselves. I wasn't always as surprised as they were.

Rather than arguing with your mom about this, why don't you try to talk to her about the specific things she sees in him that she doesn't like? You might get a new perspective on this. Ask her what behavior has she seen in him that makes her worry. What incidents between you and him that she saw that causes her concern.

Now, you have to stay calm when this occurs, because you are giving her permission to say all the things thats on her mind about this guy, and it probably won't be pleasant. But DON'T defend him this time, just listen, let her vent. Think about what she said and pretend she was talking about one of your girlfriends and HER boyfriend. would you think like her if YOU weren't involved?

Maybe your mom IS being irrational, but maybe she isn't. Maybe she has valid reasons for feeling the way she does and because you get defensive too quickly, she is reduced to crazy arguments.

Unless your mother is evil, or insane, she probably wants only the best for you. Give her a chance and the room to express herself fully to you on this matter. At the very least, if you do it right, it will end the bickering.

No offense but your Mom is generalizing a myth started many years ago. Being a Marine is both honorable and patriotic. Individuals may be abusive but they'll be in all walks of life (yeah, maybe a Marine or two in there). Stick with your boyfriend if you love him.

That is totally false...most the men in my Family, Dad, uncles and cousins are Marines, and I know a Marine and they are not abusive.. tell mom she cant base her feelings towards all marines just because one is bad.

been to iraq 2 times, 21 years old, I care more for human life and i am more caring than most civilians are, its just the stigma that comes with defending people who have no clue.
