There is plenty of great advice here, and if you wanted my top 50 greatest pieces of advice, I would be happy to fill that list with great ones, including many here. But you asked for one. I have something simple, and from the bible (although I am not religious). It has a short story to go with it, that was told by Abraham Lincoln during a speech he made once.
In an ancient Chinese dynasty, the emperor asked his intellectuals to come up with a sentence statement that was true at all times. They came up with "This too, shall pass." Lincoln said, how hopeful it can be for those in times of sorrow, how humbling it can be for those in times of triumph. It is true during all times.

Fill your heart with love and compassion. Treasure each moment. Don't think a lot of tomorrow or yesterday. One is yet to be and the other is gone forever.

Look to yourself for approval (and always challenge yourself to to better) and forget other peoples opinions or what they might think of you. THIS is extremely difficult, but if you manage it, life will be so much easier.
