I knew a guy who couldn't get out of bed without it. Don't know if he can, yet, or not.

It's not physically addictive in the way that, say, coke is, but it can be psychologically addictive in that you become accustomed to the mellow feeling and don't want to go without it.

It's been called a "gateway" drug on the assumption that it will lead you to want to try something even stronger. That's nonsense, of course. Plenty of weed smokers - probably most - have no desire to experiment with any of the addictive drugs. The rationale they cite is that all users of hard drugs started with marijuana. Of course they did. That's the most common, and cheapest, mind-altering drug. Well, except for maybe alcohol.

Marijuana is a psychotropic drug. A psychoactive drug or psychotropic substance is a chemical substance that acts primarily upon the central nervous system where it alters brain function, resulting in temporary changes in perception, mood, consciousness and behavior.

These drugs may be used recreationally to purposefully alter one's consciousness (such as coffee, alcohol or cannabis), as entheogens for spiritual purposes (such as the mescaline-containing peyote cactus or psilocybin-containing mushrooms), and also as medication (such as the use of narcotics in controlling pain, stimulants to treat narcolepsy and attention disorders, as well as anti-depressants and anti-psychotics for treating neurological and psychiatric illnesses).

Many of these substances (especially the stimulants and depressants) can be habit-forming, causing chemical dependency and may lead to substance abuse. Conversely, others (namely the psychedelics) can help to treat and even cure such addictions.

So, yes. But it's your own chemicals that cause the dependency; Dopamine, seratonin, and other endorphins that are released. However there are no major withdrawal symptoms like alcohol and cocaine, to name a few. You may feel some anxiety, but after 8 days you should be fine. In 30 -45 days, all the THC should be absent from the body. After 1 year, all traces of carcinogens should be absent from the lungs.

No it is not addictive, I don't do it but some friends do and lead normal lives. I'm sure some people get screwed by it and might do harder drugs, but it's no worse than tobacco yet that's legal which is pathetic.
