The line is "alas poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio" not "knew him well".

Start the essay like this:

"Hamlet eh? Well, not there's a play and an 'arf'. While it is really old it isn't as rubbish as you would think, though I didn't understand anything that was said in it"

Good?

Or

"Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a play about..." and then explain what it is a bout (you have read it I pressume?). I can't tell you what it is about because when I read it I also read Macbeth at the same time and I have them both utterly confused in my mind :P Something to do with everyone all dying in one room within seconds of each other right at the end, you know, idiotically.

THE END

No seriously, sorry, do you know what a summary is? Its basically ..... well, say The play Hamlet revolves around the lives of .. in the .. century and the relationships between .. and... and the involvement of .. or ..... and the injustice of blah - its basically cutting a long story short, like maybe if you were telling a friend what happened in Eastenders last night for example. So start at the beginning.

You could say that Hamlet is a play about good decent man surrounded by deceitful people. He desperately wants to avenge his fathers murder but battles with right and wrong. He is a very complex character as well some people think he is mad but others think he is well aware of what is going on around him.

How did you start to write this question? All you need to know is the play Hamlet. Start explaining what happens at the beggining of the play. Hamlet meets the ghost of his dead father who tells him that he was murdered by Claudius....

Gemma, sweet girl, you are supposed to do your own homework!
Go to bed a bit earlier too.
If you need this much help, you should see your tutor.
