MY Biology Professor wants us to make a biological observation on something in our house. I asked him what he meant by that and he said he won't tell me. He told me to find a way to figure it out. Can anyone give me an example of a biological observation?

A biological observation is a record of living thing, taken by studying/examining its activity. For example, you might notice a plant by your window growing towards the sunlight.

I think a biological observation is an observation about the biology of something. For example "women have longer hair than men" might be a biological observation in your household. This is just a guess on my part. Here is a website that talks about biological observations:

Pull up the drain plug in the sink and notice the film near the rubber gasket or in the drain pipe on the surface. That is a good example of a biofilm. Where millions of bactria, some protozoa, a few yeasts and fungi live together protected by the polysaccharide jell that a few of the bacteria excrete. This whole jell is complex ecosystem, where ones cells waste products are metabolised by the next cell type etc. Which is a biological observaton.

Oh christ, I hate professors like that... when they're so paranoid about giving away the answer that they won't give away the theory.

I think he probably wants you to find a non-human biological system, or something that is cause-and-effect that you can observe and make theories about. Maybe you notice that on hot days about 25 celsius, you find four ants on your kitchen countertop, but on colder days below 20 celsius, you don't find any. It would be something you don't have to make any manipulations to observe, so you don't want to go setting up any experiments or something--just look for cause-and-effect patterns.
