Can you imagine a real and meaningful friendship with a friend who is 5000 km apart from you?

For me a real and meaningful friendship does not mean that I have to see or be geographically near to my friend. With IM, VoIP, cell phones, email, webcams... if you need to communicate with your friend, they are literally... right... there!

During the past 12 yrs. or so I've lost at least 7. Three were brothers, these died from drinking. Another one died because of heart trouble- I use to sing in the church choir with him and others. The next one I met in '92 at a homeless shelter I had to stay at. The next I studied with and partied with when we both went to the same college during the early 70's. Another 2, I went to high school with. I think this is 8 ole friends. I try to forget this part of my life, but my friends I'll always remember. All of my old friends died from a drinking/ problem, except Robert Royer who had some type of heart problem. They were all TOO Young to die- some were in their 30's, others were in their 40's.

Yes. I have a freind i met in medical school and have not seen her in 5 years (she quit on her 2nd year) But i saw her a month ago and it was like we never lost touch at all:) I lost friends too. My college buddy decided to break my brothers heart by marrying him and and made sure she got everything...Turns out, she really wasnt a good friend. I think in life, we are made to experience the pain of losing friends that you thought would alwaysnbe there and you thought that you can get through a lot of trials. It is through this experiences that you grow as a person:)

I have only lost 2 friends. One because she was jealous everytime I had a boyfriend and she did not I did not want to deal with that and the other one because I could not stay her friend while she makes excuses for why her boyfriend beats her. I tried to keep both friendships going but i refuse to go down with a lost ship. My two best friends live far from me one in Sicily and one in Puerto Rico. I live in South Carolina and we keep in touch with each other my email and snail mail. When we get together It is as if we were never parted. It's great and it gives me places to go on vacation.

2......they both must've dropped their brains and followed the rest of the popular crowd because they weren't able to handle the fact that one friend isn't enough.

Nope, you've grown apart. It's time to make new friends. Don't ask me how. I don't have any.
