I often wonder if they are currently embarrased. Or maybe preparing for the rapture or something.

One of my co-workers was there, he's just finished eating all the spam he bought. It was pretty funny and even though we teased him, he took it well.

Some were gald, but others were disappointed. It makes sense to have a few essentials for any eventuality.
I keep enough of most things around all year long, as I am rural, and help of any kind is quite a ways off. I have done so for years before Y2K type scares.
And I don't trust those in positions of responsibility to act responsibly. I don't really think the government (no matter which one) is part of an evil conspiracy et al; but look at the lazy, self involved, useless around you at your job , in public, in your family!
This is the gene pool that governmental agencies pull from. There should be no expectation that they come through big and smart ina crisis, when they do such a poor job day to day.
This is something the Katrina victims should learn, or should have known before hand.

They tried to return all their portable generators to the Home Depot on Jan 2, 2000. After that, they faded into obscurity. There might be a Millenial Nut in the cubicle next to you...

Perhaps they had a party and invited their neighbours to try some new "cuisine" using the tinned food they stocked up?

As for the guns, well if the neighbours don't come...

No. There's always some other planet threatening stories to fantasize over. Like a meteor and comets destroying civilization, global warming, and, of course, 6-6-06.

there were probably more then a few people in New Orleans who were glad they had canned food and whatever else is needed for an emergency.

I think they are keeping them there until the year 3,000. That is what I am doing also.. I want to have plenty stored up for then.
