My boss' birthday is tomorrow he will be 56. There are 5 women in my department and we cannot figure out what in the world to get him. One of them called me and asked me to do all of the thinking. So far we came up with a balloon a card and to order pizza for lunch. I also came up with the idea for flowers but they said it was gay. Please any ideas? Plus we don't want him to know we're getting him something. This is tough!

sounds like you mix work with your regular life

If I saw my boss on the street he would get robbed and I have been working for him for 7 years

if your not a woman then there is no way I see you outside of work or even care about your birthday wedding whatever

Does he have any hobbies? You could buy him golf balls, or does he have a favorite sports team? Pick something that he is interested in and buy a gift related to that. What does your company do? He might appreciate a Dilbert book or being taken out to a nice restaurant (with each of you contributing to pay for his). There are also executive toys available at most luggage stores for him to display on his desk. If he has a great sense of humor, you might go to a novelty store for some "Old Fart" gifts - but only do this if you know him really well and it won't upset him. When our boss turned 50 we posted Old Fart crossing signs at the entrance he used, and left a cane for him. Then we designated a stall in the men's bathroom for him as his personal stallwith black balloons and a sign in his honor, which he loved! The gift doesn't have to be expensive, it just needs to be thoughtful. Good luck!

A bottle of wine and a card signed by everyone. Don't overdo it, it should only have symbolic value.
