Ask your parents to let you have one class and if you lose interest or you do not excell you will drop the whole thing.
Some dance studies are usually so happy to have a male maybe they will give you a big break.

Tell them that this is the activity that you have chosen, and you are serious about it. Dancing will ensure that you have a lean, muscular body. It will also give you great balance, speed and stamina. Even if you would choose another career or activity down the road (even football) you would be in great shape.

You could point out that lots of men are great dancers. Use Jerry Rice as your example of a macho man dancer!

Ask them to indulge in your desire for 6 months. If the instructors say you have potential, have them talk with your parents. There are opportunities in theatre and performance troups, each looking for male dancers. If theatre is your goal, you should consider voice lessons too.

You must be willing to work on it upwards from 4 hours a day, have sore legs and feet for the rest of your life, and have to put up with a lot of ridicule from your peers.

CONFIDENCE: Dancers possess an aura of self-confidence and an ability to enjoy themselves more in public settings. Their entire mental outlook takes on a renewed sense of creativity, motivation and energy.

CREATIVITY: Dance provides an emotional outlet in which a person can truly reflect his or her feelings through body movement. The ability to dance is present in everyone, it only needs to be cultivated through sound instruction methods. Then you're on your own, expressing yourself with passion and flair.

HEALTH: Dancing helps the body's circulatory system as it makes your heart pump blood faster. Dancing encourages weight control and overall fitness through calorie burn off. The constant movement and muscle extension during dance sessions also provides a pleasing, mild exercise most people long for but rarely achieve, especially in such pleasant circumstances.

Dance Standards
Grades 9 - 12:

High school students need to continue to dance and create dances in order to develop more highly their ability to communicate in a way that is different from the written or spoken word, or even from other visual or auditory symbol systems. They also need to respect their bodies and to understand that dance is the product of intentional and intelligent physical actions. Continued development of movement skills and creative and critical thinking skills in dance is important regardless of whether students intend a dance career.

Let your parents know that many school systems include dance in the curriculum because of the advantages in physical activity as well as critical thinking skills that students gain.

Also, students who are involved in activities actually have higher achievement in school and more positive developmental assets which are a measure of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.

Good Luck

Ballet is so disciplined, you won't be getting into any trouble. It also teaches you grace and confidence. Let them know that you're serioud an dthis is something that you really want to do. You and your parents should call a local studio and see if all of you can watch a ballet class.

Tell them that Zoe thinks they're being absurd. Then point out that kids whose parents don't let them follow their dreams often end up as serial killers. Then have them read "The Alchemist" and write a brilliant essay about how your Personal Legend is to dance, and that the world SHOULD BE conspiring to help you acheive it. (You kinda have to read it to understand that...)
