My dad used to use a belt. Anytime he caught us slamming doors, he'd whip us pretty good. We eventually stopped slamming doors.

They make these hinge like devices that can be placed on the top of the door and connected to the wall. They slow the door when closing, they are usually found in schools and office buildings, and I'm sure you could pick one up at a hardware store.

My Ford Van has a piece of plastic that is kinda folded in half and creates some friction so the door doesn't slam so hard. I don't know if there is an equivelant for a house door.

any good hardware store will have a hydraulic cylinder that attaches to the door frame and the door. They are not very expensive--usually used on a storn door.

You can put either weather stripping or a foam gasket around the door frame that will at least soften the blow.
