It was during work hours. I came home for my lunch break and had to call in for the rest of the day. He is a diabetic and they wanted to run tests and didn't know why he was so sick. Help.
Thanks

I never miss work. I showed her documentation to prove where I was. She says my husband is grown and should be able to care for himself. I say he was sick and needed me there not drop him off and go back to work.

Provide proof that you were indeed at the hospital taking care of a family emergency. The family medical leave act should cover this one. It is important to notify your manager to allow them the opportunity of finding someone to cover you. When you arrived at the hospital I know it was probably the last thing on your mind and one of the first things that you should have done. I would bring in his medical transcripts to show them that you were at the hospital and if you didn't call your manager then apologize to them. Let them know what was going on. As a manager I would not write someone up for taking someone to the hospital unless I didn't believe that employee. If they have a past history with me for being late or for not showing up, and then giving me a lame excuse that they can't back up. If you did provide the medical information and they did know that you were at the hospital and they still wrote you up then I would ask if the write up could be reviewed by higher management . There are always two sides to every story and I wish I had both sides, then I could give a more accurate answer. Most managers are approachable and are decent people. Note- MOST, but not all. Good Luck!

You know what? Life can be a b!+ch sometimes, I went through something like that during my school days, when my baby was real sick, I was like at the top of the class but, when my daughter which was 6 mos. got really sick and I told the school she had to be the hospital for like two weeks and I wanted off then I had to start all over again I was ticked off so I dropped the class because of course my child came first, and you know what, If it was my husband I would have done the same thing, just look at it as one of those things that will happen in our life times that are tests for us as human beings.....Don't worry you did the right thing......

Although you don't state, your question implies insecurity about your job. Unless you have a contract, you are likely considered an "at-will" employee--meaning you can be fired at any time for any reason except for any discriminatory reason (race, ethnicity, age, disability, etc.).

First, obtain the employee handbook and make sure you know your rights. Get it from the HR/Personnal office. If they identify procedures in the handbook, ensure that they are followed to a T.

If you are fired and suspect discrimination, you MUST contact an attorney quickly as there are very short timelines for filing EEOC claims and taking action to protect your rights. Good luck!

If the write up is going in your employee file, make sure you document a response on the write up to include the circumstances of your absence. Attach a doctor's bill or report to the write up. This way, if it ever becomes a problem again, you have clear documentation that it was a legitimate absence, not a goof off. Make sure you get a photo copy of the write up with your response on it. This way, if your response ever mysteriously disappears...you will have a copy!!

If it is that important to you, go to your Human Resources department and file a complaint against your boss. Most likely, they will retract it rather tahn going thru all the trouble once you can provide proof of where you were.
However, in my opinion, write ups are not that big of a deal. It's just a piece of paper. Don't you have to sign something before they put it in your file along with any comments?

Try bringing paperwork from the doctor to work.
If they say it means nothing hold your tongue and start looking for a better job.
When you find a better job and give notice they will likely ask why you decided to leave.Tell them you started looking for a "better Employer" after you rushed your husband to the doctor and were
written up for responding to a medical emergency.
