I have on more that one occastion (okay, it was 3) unintentionally murdered the most beautiful and healthy ferns. It all started when I was given a fern as a house warming gift. Within 2 weeks, there were tiny leaves scattered all around the floor. I replaced it right away and I killed that one too. I gave up on ferns for a while. Thinking that I'm older and more responsible now (it's been 10 yrs) I figured I'd give it another go. Well, its been 2 weeks and the fern is starting to show some signs of distress!

PLEASE, SOMEONE. SPELL IT OUT FOR ME. WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO CARE FOR A FERN?

Here's what i've found, and it's mostly trial and error. I have killed my share of beautiful ferns... They seem to like warmth and humidlity but not a direct hot sun. They also don't like to be over watered. I put mine outside on the deck in a corner that gets a lot of light but not a lot of direct sun and if it doesn't rain, then I water about every three or four days. (Our temps are generally in the high 80's, low 90's.) In the cooler months I put it in a window in my kitchen that gets some nice light and turn it every couple of weeks. Good luck!

It really depends on what type of fern you have. check below for a good website on indoor ferns.

Water it lightly every other day, stick it in direct sunlight 6/7 days a week, indirect 1/7... I don't think you have to do much else.

I keep a small spray bottle full of water and spritz them with it...they love it! Also, they need adequate light , not full sun but enough to keep them happy. Keep them well watered and spray them. That should do it.
