I am considering changing from an American company to a German one and I'd like to gather insight on how they might compare based on their cultural differences.

I work for a huge German company. I am also in the US, and we were a British company until the German company purcahsed us last year.
That being said- it kind of depends on how large the company you may work for is. I rarely work with the Germans, whereas I used to work with the English folks every so often. That being said, my experiences with the Germans has been very positive thus far. They are very much oriented towards growing the business, and yet they still treat the employees with respect. They have been very focused on a tight integration of our two companies and have very successfully managed it thus far. They also had the insight to see where my current company was stronger than theirs, and used our better processes while eliminating theirs. So I have nothing bad to say about working for a German company at this point.

get the culture shock books - they have one on almost every country.
I am also looking to move to germany (in fact just started language lessons yesterday!)
They are hard working - stoic people. in a nutshell.

they like to drink...and have a lot of beer parties with German beer...my husband worked for one for 7 years..He thought it was a great company..

Very formal. Use last names. Don't smile. Don't expect to have fun - they save that for off-hours.
