The sexual tension between men and women might affect how they react in battle. Also women aren't as strong as men.

I had a friend who was in Vietnam. In the late 1970s, his wife gave birth to a son.

At the time, there was talk of drafting women. Believing that men and women should be equal, I made the comment that if they were going to draft men, they should also draft women. He was adamant that they should not draft women. He seemed like an enlightened guy & I couldn't imagine that he would not think of women as being equal to men.

Then he told me his reasons. He pointed out that there were five support positions in the army for every combat position. And he pointed out that if women were drafted, three of those positions would be taken by women. This meant that if his son was drafted, he would have had a one in three chance of being sent to combat instead of a one in six chance. As a father and a combat veteran, he didn't want that for his son.
