$3,000 seems a little bit low to not only have a car for him, but have a car that you can rest easy that he won't be broken down on the side of the PCH in a week! I'd say for about $5,000 you could find something pretty decent. Look for a good reliable car like an older model Toyota or Honda Civic. Try Autotrader.com, it's where I've found the past two cars I bought. You might luck out, but like I said, don't sacrific quality either, or else it will just cause headaches and you'll end up needing to put more money in after a few weeks.

You first must ask yourself a few things first. Such as how much driving are you going to be doing with the car. Do you need it as family transport. Do you enjoy fuel economy or do you want performance. How old of a vehicle are you willing to purchase. Things like that. Then you need to sit down and figure out how much you can really afford. By this I mean are you going to purchase a car by paying for it right away or are you going to go on a payment plan. If you go on a payment plan, make sure you know what your credit rating is before applying for the loan. Btw, if you're going to go for a $3000 car, you're probably looking at one that's either high mileage or atleast 10 years old. If you decide to purchase a car like that, make sure to get it checked out by a reputable mechanic prior to making the purchase. Also, make sure to get a car fax report on it.

i dont know about la but here in ohio you can get a decent car but with high miles for under 3000. Try looking on ebay just set your search results to a maximum price of 3000 and put in your zip to search what close by. Civics and cavaliers are good first cars because they are cheap, dont have too much power, and are good on gas.

$3000 seems a bit low for a car that is in good working condition. We paid $8500 for my sons first car and it needed minor work (tune up - it never had one, brakes, and the trunk leaked).

Look on http://losangeles.craigslist.org/
I live in TX and I look here for cars in CA all the time. You can find a decent used car in LA for 3K. Go look at them before giving out any money. Good Luck!

$5000 would be more feasible. you can get a nice used civic. keep in mind ANY used car you get will need some repairs to it so figure in another $1000 or so for that. as the old saying goes you get what you pay for. don't buy American. otherwise you'll be looking at another $2000 in repairs. At least.

You should be able to find one for that no problem! In fact, I have a Maserati/Chrysler with low miles...new convertible top, runs great, A/C....it's a good, safe car! I'll sell it to you for $2500. tonevault@yahoo.com if you are interested. I'm in Long Beach.
