Natural Quit Smoking Magic

I can't remember who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is about smoking. "Quitting's easy - I've done it a thousand times".

Quitting permenantly is another story. I am a smoker. I don't want to quit, but wish I wanted to quit. This is what I am doing in the mean time...
I don't have the ultimate desire to quit, but want to be healthier so I've done a few things to help a bit.

1. I excercise more. Some studies say that those who smoke and excercise regularly are healthier than those who don't smoke or excercise at all.
2. I take breaks from smoking. I know smoking is effecting my health when I become really tired for 3 or more days for no reason, my sinuses/allergies are acting up more than usual or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I then take about three days off from smoking and feel better.
3. I drink a lot of water. This curves appetite as well as cigarrette cravings.
4. Keep busy as much as possible. When the mind is off of cigarrettes, the desire is gone. I don't know about you, but the no smoking adds on television and on billboards everywhere are the worst things for me. They just remind me of the fact that I smoke and trigger the need.

Not sure if this is anywhere near Dr. recommended, but it may help a bit until you are completely ready and determined to quit - if that's where you are at this time

yeah i'm a smoker too.. so i sympathise!! on top of all the obvious things we all know.. i also believe that smoking stops us from doing more... ie, of an evening, if i'm bored, maybe watching tv i'll light up a ciggy.. that justifies the next 3-4 mins of my life.... i reckon if i didn't smoke i would get up and do something instead of just sitting there...
another thing is that i think back to why i started... and none of reasons were very clever... and i think smoking really is such a dumb dumb thing to do... i'm spending 5 quid a day! on something that does nothing for me (ie not like any other drug including alcohol, which is also bad for me but at least has a point to it!), we are ridiculous to smoke... just donkeys... and it's making us old before out time...(vanity has to be quite a strong one, as i'm getting older now!) yeah the list is endless really.. so i'll stop wittering now.. but good luck be strong... and just try to think how strong and empowered you are going to feel WHEN you stop! in charge of your own destiny and all that!...

I went from 2 packs a day to zero overnight. That was 22 years ago, and I haven't had one since. My motivation began with frequent bouts of pneumonia, but what really convinced me is when my kids got sick too.. from my smoking. That's when i stopped cold turkey. You need to do it when the time is right for you. It begins with THE decision. You need backup too. My backup was a jar of boiled sweets. No patches in those days ! I also kept a sealed packet of cigarettes for about a year. That way I felt it was my choice, it wasn't that i didn't have any. If I didn't have any I might be more likely to panic. But that was just me.You might be different. Good luck.

I'm a nurse, and I've taken care of hundreds of people who were dying of lung cancer from smoking. It also increases your chances of having a stroke.

I used to smoke 2.5 packs a day and quit cold turkey. It is the only way to do it. It is hard, I will pray for you, but I believe you can do it.

The best reason is that you want to be here years from now to watch your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

Just to win yourself that it is you who can do it if you want !

Just because you can win yourself. It is because you know that 90% of people lying in Hospital regret to say that they had been a chain smoker in their earlier life. But these are not enough reasons. You should quit smoking because you have someone to love. Someone in this world, who will weep if you are not well. For his or her sake just you will quit. This is not even enough reason to quit. You will quit smoking because you will continue to come and joy us in this Yahoo answers as before. I hope we will like to see you from this moment a Winner. A man who won himself and because he has the power to do it from this moment, right now. Just throw the white poison wrapped in paper from your fingers. Cry these words : I can win. I am the winner. and thereafter ring your girl friend, if any that you have won, or your kind parents that you have quit smoking forever. And a kind e-mail to me if possible. Wish you a very Happy bright future.

One thing more, if it all not possible, just quit it for a day only. i.e. Today.

I don't know if the picture is really of you or not, But I don't believe that many people find smoking attractive, and a lot of men that I know think that it is just disgusting. It ruins your lungs and circulatory system. You may as well not bother buying nice clothes or makeup or perfume because no body will notice these things for the stench of smoke that will become part of your skin and hair and breathe. Wherever you smoke will reek also, your car and your house. I don't know if you have a significant other or not, but I have friends who gave up on dating someone they really liked because they couldn't kiss them without gagging and thought they smelled like a dirty ashtray. Don't think that would add to any romantic thoughts for me. Yuck. It is so expensive, just think of all the money you would save....it would help pay for fuel for your car and meals and you could even build up a savings account. It ages your face and causes the skin and underlying fatty tissue (which makes your face healthy and youthful looking) to break down. Don't bother getting manicures or having acrylics, no body will notice with the filthy butt hanging out of your fingers. Your hands will age much more quickly also, so don't bother using all the creams and lotions to keep your skin in good shape. The smoke and chemicals will age your skin just as quickly as tanning during the hottest part of the day. Not to say anything about the damage you are doing to your lungs and the lungs of those around you....that hacking cough in the middle of the night when you feel as if you will never catch your breathe. The smoke actually will damage the enamel on your teeth, which will add to bad breathe....it just goes on and on. Drop those ciggies and live, live, live....Best of luck to you!

How's the no smoking going? It truly sucks to go through the withdrawal over and over. I have quit 10 times. When I start again, I just feel like a big ole loser. If you get the urge smell an ashtray. That will stop you. Congrats on quitting!

Since I am going to have all the tests done tomorrow to check for COPD (I have been smoking for 49+ years), I can comment!! Every answer that has been given is correct, but telling a smoker to look at your dirty lungs or your breath is disgusting is like showing a drug addict a picture of a man in prison or a dead man (we all know that drug addiction can only lead to death or prison)!!!!!! Smoking is a powerful addiction, and, yes, the only thing that tugs at my heart strings is to know that my body is supposed to be a temple for God...pure...Am I going to quit???????? I don't know....the disease of addiction owns me at this point. It doesn't ever get easier, so give it your best and good luck.
