A pedophile thinks about sexual relations with a child. A child molester actually goes out and has sexual relations with a child, although they would also still be considered a pedophile.

Although both terms are used interchangeably, a child molester is someone who sexually assaults a child but they may do it because the child was available to them i.e. where the assault is situational such as a mother leaving her son or daughter with a boyfriend who takes advantage of his time alone with the child. A pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to children, and those are his preferred victims. A pedophile will got to great pains to "groom" their preferred victim, but some prefer boys and others prefer girls. They may give the child lots of attention, money and gifts to get the cooperation they want. Both are wrong because they hurt innocent children, but a child molester may only have the one victim, whereas a pedophile may have a couple of hundred victims in their lifetime. Sadly, most children are afraid to report the crimes so these sick, sick individuals know they can get away with it for years and avoid detection. I hope this answers your questions.
