That is such a broad question.

Autistic children are being successfully treated with biofeedback.

If you want to learn any autonomic control you have to have a mechanism in place that tells you when you are achieving your desired goal. Since few of us are that aware of ourselves machines provide the feedback. Thus we can quickly learn to control our bloodpressure etc.

Most commercial eqpt is an EEG (electroencephalograph) and the real nerds go way beyond that.
I am hoping to make some feedback with lights for entrainment for hypnosis. Most people find theta hard to achieve without help.

It has ENORMOUS potential but little of it has found its way out of the lab. It helps if you know some analog electronics. The signal levels are so low you need to be skilled or you will be measuring noise. That is a big part of why it is little known

The parents of autistics take a course given by the manufacturer.
You have to know where and how to attach electrodes and some troubleshooting.

If you have patience go for it. If you froth if something doesnt tick right out the box avoid it.
