OK, see, I got on my computer and the WeatherBug was flashing, which means an alert. So I clicked on it, and I thought it was just going to be something like thunderstorms, but it said there was a tornado watch until midnight, and it scared me! Can someone please explain tornado watches to me?
Please?

I live in the midwest, it's getting ominously cloudy outside and I can't help being scared... I feel sick to my stomach

Watch is the stage of precaution. Like stated above it just means the atmospheric conditions are favorable for producing, but just has not. Warning mean that the possible is emminent and to watch carefully or take cover.

Calm down sweety....I live in the midwest too. Your worrying yourself way too much with this. If you want, go outside and watch the storm come in. If you see something within the storm you do not like, take cover.

A Tornado warning does not mean there is a tornado that has touch down. When the national wether service upgrades to a tornado warning it means the storm has become what's know as a super cell. These types of storms are what meteorologist believe spawn tornados. Again, this does not mean their is one but just that the storm has intensified to super cell level.

That just means that conditions are favorable for a tornado to possibly form. No tornadoes have actually been spotted in the area, but it's just something to be aware of, because it's possible they might. Don't panic.
What part of the country are you in? If you're not familiar with tornado watches/warnings (warning means tornadoes have been spotted), chances are they are rare where you live, so chances are no tornadoes will come your way. Don't go kite flying, stay indoors if things get bad outside, make sure you have water and food in the house, and relax.

Are you home alone? If things look ugly outside, here's a couple other things I would suggest...crack a couple windows open just a little bit (this releives the pressure in the house which can be bad in a tornado) and then stay away from the windows. I really think you are going to be okay, but that might make you feel better. Just stay inside.

If there is a lot of lightning, I would not advise talking on the phone because electrical charges have been known to travel through phone lines.

If your electricity is on, watch a funny movie or something to help you relax.

It means that there is a possibility of a tornado of occurring within the area designated as in a "Tornado Watch" zone. Stay safe and keep alert (minute-by-minute)!!!

you still havent learned that. tornado watch means that the weather conditions are able to preduce tornadoes, there fore you need to "watch" for tornadoes. a tornado warning means that a tornado has been seen and is on the ground tearing up stuff.

Weatherbug is spyware. Delete it right now.

**Note** I'm not questioning the validity of it's weather reports. Just pointing out that it is/associated with spyware.
