I assume you mean for an adult? The operation is done under a local or general anaesthetic, and it will be bandaged afterward. You will be given drugs to reduce your sex drive so that you do not get erections while healing.
You should only have a circumcision as an adult if it is medically necessary, which often it isn't. If you are having trouble with a tight foreskin, there are non-surgical procedures (stretching exercises) that may cure the problem.
The US is the only country that routinely circumcises children other than for religious reasons. The American Medical Association has stated there are no medical benefits in adult circumcision; and today only about 50% of children are circumcised at birth (this used to be much higher).
I would advise you to get a second opinion before having an irreversable operation such as this. You should understand that the glans, once exposed, will develop a keratin layer that will protect it, but also reduce the sensitivity of the nerve endings; and the nerve endings on the foreskin are of course completely lost.

Umm, after some searching I came up with this link. It's only infant circumcision though, and it's defintiely not for the queasy. Adult circumcision can vary depending on who's doing it or what the patient prefers. I think for an adult it's a general anesthetic injection or something, and it gets stitched up usually and then bandaged.

What happens? You lose 20,000 precious nerves endings, gliding action, a beautiful, functional, natural, normal body part.
Don't do it. To yourself or your child!
And don't fall for the "women prefer" line. I am a women. So are my friends who prefer intact. Check out the link!
