In 1995 a retired oil executive said to me they capped off full oil wells in Texas for profit, and a few months ago a former accountant for oil companies in Texas in 1980 said his job was to write off for taxes wells they had just tapped full of oil, and I was just told a man in Alaska lost his job after oil companies capped full wells. Alaska, Texas, Lousiana, the Gulf, Mexico, Venezuela, Russia, China, Somalia all have oil why are we buying only from the middle east?

the price of gas isn't 70 cents in Mexico, period. An yes companies block off wells that aren't profitable, which makes me wonder about people and there understanding of capitalism. The last time I checked you try and sell over what it cost to product a product, and add a margin to make money over the those costs. That is econ 101.
As for remark about US oil companies being monopolies, again you need to know what a monopoly is, and they aren't one, sorry but that is liberal propaganda. Most are international businesses that do world wide business, and might have headquarters here, but that doesn't mean much now days.
If your look a for a questionable character in this whole thing, then look to the futures markets which have made every attempt to make every little thing that might effect oil production into a crisis.
Remember they where pushing up prices from 68 to 71 dollars a barrel not long ago because of the terrible hurricane season we where going to have?
But hey, never let facts get in the way of politics right?

Taxes have a lot to do with this. That's why gas cost differently in different states within the US. I don't think it's 70 cents in Mexico. Lower maybe, but not that low.

In what part of Mexico is gas 70 cents?!?!?! I was just in Ensenada and it was almost 3 dollars a tank! Look, we gotta buy gas, so let's just stop complaining. When it gets to 10 bucks a pop, then I'll consider other forms of transportation!

Secondly, all gas is not the same. The gas in the US is formulated by region and the time year. Depending, more of this chemical and less of that and vice-versa is formulated.

Gas in Mexico is low grade.

Go to Europe. Gas there is like twice the price it is here. That explains all the small Pugeot's and other cars...not to mention the underground systems.
