My husband is really getting annoyed with his glasses and has been thinking about laser eye surgery. I heard on a documentary once that it effects night vision in the long run. Is that true? Is it safe?

My aunt recently got laser surgery on her eyes. She has always worn glasses and says she loves it. She said she waited until the surgery became better and safer. She also researched it and her doctor. She is very happy with it. I myself have not considered it as currently I am getting braces. I have heard it is very good for stigmatism. I have been to many orthodontists before I selected one and I was very happy with him until I had problems. Eventually I found a better one slightly more expensive but he is completing the work that my other orthodontist claimed he did not know how to do and I am very happy with the work as I do not want to have both jaws broken to fix my problem with my teeth. All and all it is you have to study the information, research your medical persons and decide what is your best choice. As to night vision problems I have been taking a few nutritional supplements for eyes and have found it has improved my night vision problems that began in college when I read many textbooks printed on very high quality bright white paper which surely used up a great deal of the vitamin A based chemicals in my eyes etc. I am currently taking Beta Carotene which seems to help also but not in excess like my doctor warned me about nutritional supplements taken in excess. Beta Carotene is more natural so it is better assimilated into the body according to my friend who studies nutrition. If you do not have the vitamin A compound needed which helps you see then it will decrease you vision from what I have figured out. I just began taking vitamin A for a skin problem and finally realized it was helping improve my vision very slowly. As I have a stigmatism I am sure it would require some laser surgery if I decided to do that but my night vision has improved slightly from a better diet and nutritional supplements. I hope this helps some. I have not studied laser surgery yet but my aunt says it is very good and very safe now. Just make sure your person doing your eyes is certified and has a very good reputation.

I had laser surgery done over a year ago with no problems. I had poor night vision (halos around the lights). My doctor suggested a surgery that would help correct this as well. It was more expensive than the standard surgery, but well worth it. I now have 20/15 vision in both eyes, and can drive at night with no problems.
