Good question. I really think it is up to the parents to make that decision. I was not allowed to wear any makeup until I was about 13. My dad wanted me to wait longer but I worked out a compromise to get very light makeup. Maybe your mom would just agree to lip gloss and mascara to start with. Try negotiating with her for it.

I was 16 when I started wearing makeup (a lot of it, I might add), but here I am, 7 years later, barely wearing any except for tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lip gloss. I never leave home without those "essentials!"
I think 16 is a great time to start. Why? Because you can get a job, and buy whatever kind of makeup you like, and your parents can't say a thing except for how you look when you're done!

I started wearing mascara, and only mascara in eighth grade. I didn't start wearing foundation until I was a senior in HS. Between eighth and 12th grade I started wearing blush and eye shadow. Don't overdo it, and avoid the foundation until you have to wear it. Because the earlier you start, when you get older you will have to wear it. I have great skin because I rarely wear it!
Don't rush to grow up too fast, when you get there you will look back and be sad that you didn't stay a kid as long as you could!
Good Luck

I think you should ask your mom if you can wear light makeup. Most parents allow their kids to wear makeup if they wear it lightly. I mean like not too much that you can tell if you are wearing it or not. I think your mom will agree if you ask her like this. And don't worry if she says no. Maybe you really are not old enough.

I wasnt allowed to wear makeup until i was 16 and honestly I am 21 now and still dont wear much of it. your skin wasnt made to wear makeup... I am going to do the same thing for my kids... the only thing I was allowed to wear was colored chapstick until 16... believe it or not i got alot of positive attention because of it... if you take care of yourself do your hair nice and dress nice... you have no use for makeup... especially since everyone is wearing it... be different

I think now, I started wearing a lilttle eyeshadow when I was 11 (but not everyday). But when I was 14 (about to be 16) thats when I started wearing eyeshadow & mascara everyday, but I just started a few months ago wearing eyeliner.

I think when you're 13 is a good time. Start simple with some gloss, then move up to mascara, then maybe eyeliner. I wouldn't wear foundation until you were older so you won't look fake.

the best time to wear make-up is when you are in your late pre-teens. When you are in your early pre-teens and wearing makeup it not only set you up ( at an early age)to value your self-worth based on how you look who you are based on your looks, but it makes other value you based on how you look. Make should be worn when your mature enough to know that you don't have to wear it in order to be beautiful but to wear it moderately so as to add color to the beauty that you already possess. I think you should hold off period. I'm 32 and do not wear make up and don't need to. I get mistaken for being 28 or 29. When you reach my age you see what I mean. Makeup can make you look old, fast.
