I work in Marketing as a Product Manager. I had my 1st interview with this company a month ago, with 2 HR staff (2 hours long). A week later I had my 2nd interview with HR, Business Unit Manager & Marketing Manager, I had to do a presentation & answer more questions (another 2 hours). They told me they would make a decision in 1 day. Well 4 days later I got a call saying they wanted me back for a 3rd interview. 2 weeks later I have the 3rd interview with HR, B.U.M & other Product Manager. I had to do a role play, answer a case study, analyse data & answer MORE questions (another 2 hours). Do you think this is a bit far fetched? Or is it the norma? I could understand if it was for a more senior position, but really, why can't they seem to make a decision?

the more long and involved the process, the more the candidates are screened, often means the more selective the company is

the more selective companies tend to have better jobs, working conditions, or benefits

also, companies thatmostly promote from within try to get POTENTIAL senior management when filling junior positions

the kind of far-fetched interview nonsense they were playing is no big deal if it means a better chance at a better job with better future opportunities

besides, its fun to work for nutty companies, you may get to torture and interviewee some day

The longer you're in the running the better shot you have. They want to make sure they get the best candidate because locating and training new employees is costly in both time and money.

I was a senior secretary some years ago, and for that position I had one interview with HR, one with my 75% boss, one with the secretary to my 25% boss (the CEO), and finally with the CEO. They wanted a good fit and they were rplacing someone who had been there for 22 years. It was worth the wait and until I was fired 3 years later... but that wasn't my fault. It was their small-mindedness over something long in the past. 'Nother story.

These guys can't make up their minds, they sound disorganized, and they sound like they are going to want you to give them the world on a platter for not very much money.

The fact that they told you they would have a decision for you in 1 day and didn't call you for 4 days, and then ONLY to do another interview, doesn't lend much to their reputation.

2 interviews are the norm, over the course of a week or two. This seems to be out of hand. I think they are having trouble choosing who they want and so they keep bringing several of you back for more interviews.

I would ask for more $$. hehe.

I am hearing about these long interviews more and more these days. I think employers are tired of being hoodwinked by people that lie on their resumes and are stupid and don't know what they are doing. Seems to me, you should know if you have the job by now though and they should give you a date by which they are going to make a decision.
I know people that went on interviews that lasted all day and they were served lunch and dinnner becuause the interviews lasted so long.
