Got all nine seasons, they ain't dead and references were made more than once about their death or near deaths and remember, Scully was practically dead, her dad came to her and told her it wasn't her time. Mulder was dead and even buried and he returned by the hand of Scully. This was the "Keep You Guessing" show.
