Posey has given the best answer. I thank you, Posey, for not stooping to the level so many others did that answered this question. This is my entire take on the situation. Both sides acted immaturely; though the guy doing the obscenity is the most immature. A lot of people like to move far out to get away from development so they can have a nice unobstructed view. What the neighbors didn’t realize though is that no matter how far out one moves, development will eventually come sneaking up on you, unless you purchase hundreds of acres just to yourself. Whenever there is change in life (in this case development) it causes stress, and that is what the neighbors were reacting to. They weren’t nice and have unrealistic ideas about development. Though, at least they chose the legal civilized route instead of obscenities. He needed to allow the neighbors time to adjust and eventually they would have accepted it and befriended him, and this all would have blown over.

The reason being over time more and more people are going to move into the view by building more houses, and the neighbors will eventually realize they had unrealistic expectations and also no choice but to accept it. OR the guy could have taken the legal route and filed a suit for harassment. He may think he’s cool and cocky now with the finger, but 5, 10, years from now he will still be friendless due to the obscenity even if he has taken it down. The neighbors would have eventually gotten over the house in their view, but they will never forget the obscenity. All he did was permanently hurt himself. This guy has the equivalent mentality of a flasher, flashing his private parts to children and women. I would never have anything to do with an idiot that STUPID CRAAAZY!

That is awesome. I want a "cactus" on my house now and my neighbors haven't done anything to me. I would definitely take the new homeowner's side, not his neighbors. His plan was already approved and did they bother to mention this when the frame was erected, before it as filled in yet you could see if it was blocking the view or violating height regulations? No, they didn't. If the house plan hadn't been approved yet or they complained before it was finished, I might change who's side I'm on, but as it happened, he is right. As for the other part of the question, I don't see anything offensive about it. That guy rocks and should be made mayor of the town he is in.
