I have dark brown eyes too. Who told you they don't stand out? Purple might not be the best eyeshadow colour for you. Try experimenting with copper or earthy greens with a bit of shine. Keep using black eye liner, or try a deep, intense blue eyeliner for drama.
Line the upper lid only or go very light on the bottom lash line to emphasize the almond shape. On the upper lid, make the line a little thicker towards the outer corner. If you have small eyes like me, don't make the line too thick over all, and try not wearing mascara, it looks too heavy. People with big eyes can wear heavier eye makeup.

I have the same shaped eyes and You should try using Dark brown eyeliner instead of black and don't put any under your eye only on your top eyelid. Next try using a medium brown in the crease of your eyelid, above your crease use a shimmer cream light beige color. THen You can put any darker eye shadow on your eyelid closest to your eyelashes and eyeliner. I usually use a color that is closest to the color blouse I am wearing...Mostly darker colors.

Okay Ill start with eye shadow first.
Green eyes- Purple will make your green brighter and really let them show!
Brown eyes- To make brown eyes brighter use blues to let them show!
Blue eyes- Use browns and dark browns to pop these out!
For all eye colors Natural looks great on all of them! Browns, earth toned colors work wonders!
Mascara
If you are a red head or blonde- Brown and black brown looks best.
If you are a brunett or have very dark colored hair- Black is the best color!

Use black eyeliner with black mascara. Then line under your bottom lashes with a really light eyeshadow, but not too much... This will brighten your eyes.

use a high light or a light color under your eyebrows, then use a brown color down below the light and blend them. there are many shades of brown to use, copper or a dark brown would be nice. use an eye liner, black.
