Europe was the center of the war; clearly it was a theatre.

The North African theatre was the major British theatre before D-Day; that is, after the defeat of France, Britain strived to defeat Italy before defeating Germany, and the North African front was the optimal way to break the Italian army (later on, Britain invade Italy and overran the Italian army, effectively removing Italy from the war.)

Asia had one of the most intense theatres, with agression in the Soviet Union, which, until 1943, was being slowly overrun by German armoured divisions (i.e. tanks). Also, the Pacific theatre, which is part of Asia, saw much action between China and the US vs. Japan.

South America was the only inhabited continent in the world (if we don't consider the 100 scientists in Antarctica) which WWII did not reach. Europe, Asia, and Africa saw direct combat, while North America and Australia had German submarine reconaissance landings and Japanese bombings, both from the air and sea. Again, South America was unaffected throughout the conflict.
