...what is it then? (Besides the red-headed step-child of the solar system LOL!) And what are the names of the other new planets? Are they out beyond pluto?

From what I understand astronomers have found a hundred or so Pluto like objects. In fact they found one even bigger than Pluto. Maybe they are just tired of rewriting text books. I don't know. Like any language a word, term, label, is just a subjective way to make sense of our world and others. I could be a contrarian and still call Pluto a planet. Who's going to stop me, the astronomy police?

its still a planet for the time being, the only problem now is because they define it as a planet, it opens doors to other round planet shape icy object to be added to our solar system such as one of Pluto's moons, it's now considered a planet, based on definition, so basically its the same thing they did with vegetables, it started with the tomato, now its the cucumber, and avocado, and so many more, in fact there is so many veges turning into fruits now, I no longer think there is any vegetable, so the same things going to happen with our solar system, by the way Pluto will aways be a planet no mater what. and if its not sweet, even if it has a seed, then its not a fruit, thats in my book.

It is a planet. But an insignificant one at that. It is so far away that it takes about 295 years to complete one orbit of the sun. I saw one estimate of its size. That was 1,500 miles in diameter. As a comparison, our moon is 2,000 miles in diameter. Other estimates of the size vary up to 4,000 miles.
