Dan Wetzel is a reporter, notoriously the lowest paying job besides mail guy at your local newspaper. He probably thinks that Big Brothers/Big Sisters should get paid for mentoring at-risk youths, or that voters should get paid to go to the ballot box. Ridiculous.

I loved little league because I got to play baseball, just like my heroes growing up. I was Reggie at the plate, or Guidry on the mound, or Nettles in the hot corner, or Mickey Rivers with the bat twirl. I got a thrill just putting on the stirrups, the smell of the glove, the bat, the ballpark. You didn't need to pay me, and you don't need to pay these kids who also love baseball and are a heck of a lot better than we were growing up.

Once you start paying kids for having fun, it doesn't become fun anymore. The 6'8" Saudi kid will want more money than his 5'4" catcher. The coaches will want a piece, the cities they represent will want a cut, or will sell space on the team jerseys and then it gets to be what the military calls a cluster f*#k. Money and kids need to get together in classrooms, where the value and importance of money and proper money management are NEVER taught. Little leaguers get to play the best kids their age on national tv with their parents in the stands. That is priceless (Mr. Wetzel, some things can't be valued). And college kids get free education, room and board and physical and leadership training, on top of being in the spotlight on TV every Saturday. They don't need money, they need the time and space to enjoy their lifestyles for however short it lasts.

Dan Wetzel's job is to sell papers or get eyeballs to the website. Next thing he'll write about is how Dwayne Wade is the next Michael Jordan after his ONE championship riding alongside Shaq, Zo and a host of solid, veteran players...something Kobe did THREE times with no belch of Jordan comparisons to be heard from anyone. Oh wait, he already wrote that silly article. My bad.

America isn't just about money, as the media and people outside this country who have no clue continue to rant and rave about. Playing baseball represents a uniquely American experience, of being out there for six, seven or nine innings, chattering to your teammates and opponents and playing the nation's pastime. For these kids, that's more than enough. For Wetzel, it's just another phantom opportunity to commercialize yet another sport beyond recognition and rob kids of their souls. What a buffoon.

expensive Catcher_495, genuinely no longer! money should not be the incentive for those childrens however the organic love of the sport. For those of watch who watch Little league its between the superb issues- while the youngsters win (the elation) and fall short (you spot the actual heartbrokenness) and that's alluring how passionate they are approximately triumphing a baseball sport for their teammates and the country they are representing. The international locations could desire to rather pay for all the youngsters costs (maybe including an trip or some thing for the time of off-days). It merely opens up a brilliant can of worms- can we pay severe schoolers, how approximately collegiate athletes? additionally in view that maximum of them are 11 and 12 years previous- the money might bypass to their mothers and fathers. that's a poor theory and in the event that they desperate to do it- i think of multiple the followers who're became directly to Little League could be became off to it. NO!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I feel it is ridiculous to pay even professional athletes the sickening amount they are paid, as well as the amount actors receive. It is obscene. As for little league rs they are NOT suppose to be playing for the pay but for the game as ALL athletes should. Let them still be kids playing a "GAME". IF they are good enough & able to stay healthy, they will get to the pay window eventually.

Yes,,,,

It would encourage Johnny's father to hire a thug to club the leg of the star player of the opposing team, giving Johnny's team a better chance of winning.

It would also also make it possible for all the Johnnys to afford the cost of seeing the overpaid so called professionals play.

I'm not sure if they should get paid, but maybe they should get some kind of reward, like college scholarships.
