I have 2 1996 Dodge Ram 1500's and i have no idea what you're talking about. Go to a good mechanic and let them know what you know.

I had a Ford windstar with an option that tells me when an extrerior bulb is out. Headlight tail light turnsignal, what ever. I am guessing that the "DING" is the chime that accompanies the dash light but it is sporatic so I would go around the vehichle and check all bulbs, pulling them and reseating them. If one looks like water has attacked it replace it....This should resolve the issue.

If it's still under warranty take it in. Sounds like your check engine light is coming on and you are having engine-pinging going on. It can be caused by a number of things but the cheapest fix would be to try a higher octane gas and see if it goes away.

Pinging can be caused by Carbon Build up in the engine. An Oxygen or Mass Air Flow Sensor going bad or getting dirty. Bad or Dirty gas. Clogged Fuel Injectors from bad or dirty gas. etc.

If you get your gas at places like Citgo, etc. Then you're putting cheap dirty gas into your vehicle and it is causing problems. The best gas you can use is stuff like Chevron with Techron. Fuels that have cleaning additives added in are the best for your vehicle.
