hmm - there are lots of bigger issues to be worried about so whatever - maybe the scientists can now start cracking on getting a fuel alternative or try reversing global warming or cleaning up pollution.

It makes sense. It's nothing like a "classical" planet, being pretty much a big ball of ice with an elliptical, off-kilter orbit that overlaps Neptune's orbit. And, of course, if it remained a planet there were several other objects that would fit the definition of a planet and probably dozens more in the Kuiper Belt that haven't been discovered yet. Even when it was discovered in 1930 there was much debate over whether or not to call it a planet.

Change is good. Now as all the new large bodies in the Kuiper belt are discovered (such a Xena - larger than Pluto) we won't have to keep upping the number of planets.
Rather, we will increase the number of recognized 'dwarf planets' of which Pluto will always have the honor of being the first!

And, here I always just thought Pluto was Mickey's dog!!
Seriously, though, it was early on thought Pluto was a moon to Neptune. Now, what if science says Neptune is not a planet??

Next they will say Earth isn't really a planet either. Why is it necessary to decide such silly things when issues such as world
hunger is a bigger problem.
Anyway we all know Pluto is really a dog.

thank God they final did it. I feel that it never was a planet and they just left it in there to keep people happy. I love the new label for what a planet is and what it is not. Eight planets is the way to go. It is just eaisier this way.

If scientist have enough evidence to support that it does not qualify to be a planet then so be it.
We will miss you Pluto
