Generally people judge based on how they were raised. Input from adults an early age. But where did that start? People like to think they are special, and unique (not say we aren't) but because of their own inferiority complex or feelings of insecurity, they then tend to break down others, thus making themselves appear greater.
There some special folks out there who really are kind to strangers. I've met some and they really changed my views. Even though I never really 'judged' myself as being judgemental... I found that I had room to improve as well.

Because people are always judging people who don't look like them. It gives them a false sense of security and status. I hate that, I'm 14 and goth/punk and people critisize all the time. I'm latino and they are like only white people are goth. It makes me mad, I like the style thats it. I don't judge others on how they look so don't judge me. People like what they like and people need to accept that. With out cultural differences this world would be boring... but then again it would be peaceful...

I think that it's personal and social insecurity. We (society) don't want to see what we consider flaws in ourselves so when we're confronted with them in others it becomes a knee jerk reaction to criticize others. We all want to be thought of as smart, good looking, etc. so that when we see someone who doesn't exactly fit the mold, we label or judge that person. As for a person's beliefs, I think that should remain personal, whatever your relationship with with religion is, it should be just yours, don't try to impress it on others.

they control their own fear this way. see we fear what we don't understand and in order to help ease this fear we give things labels. people ,religion, politics and culture is diffrent all over the world and if we don't understand one or all these things we label them with something we do understand.here in America shortly after Sept.11,2001 we labled all Arabs terrorist. all Muslims religious fanatics. because we only understand capitalist ways of life. but even that term (capitalist) is another label. i hope this helps you alittle.i think labels are wrong but it looks like we are stuck with them until we grow up as a race.

People need a way to make sense of the world without having to give it much thought. Labels are a good way to not have to think or pay attention.

I believe because people are insecure about themselves so they feel if they put others down, or judge them that would make themselves feel better. That has been my experience.
