It depends on what kind of egg you are talking about. Is it a chicken egg? If it was laid by a non-chicken, then that egg doesn't qualify.
So, I'll go with chicken. How could nature create a chicken egg without knowing about the chicken first?

Which came first - the chicken or the egg? "The chicken" came first - in the sentence of the question. If the question is phrased differently, the answer is different.
Reframing the question
It could be said that the question simply requires one to know the context. Most people thinking of the question automatically think of the timeline and it is in this manner that both the previous evolutionary theory and religious teachings contexts arise. Other potential contexts are:
* Having looked through a dictionary from front to back, which came first? - the chicken or the egg?
* When you walked through the supermarket, which came first? - the chicken or the egg?
* When reading the menu, which came first? - the chicken or the egg?

Hmm, since this is in the Theatre and Acting section, I would have to say the chicken, who appeared as herself in a brief cameo. The egg, however, could not figure out how to take a bow, being inflexible in the middle section. Besides, the producer noticed the chicken would work for chicken feed, whereas the egg's feelings were too fragile to be handled on a day-to-day basis.

If there were no chicken, what would lay the egg. Therefore the chicken came first.

The chicken. If it was the egg then it would've died because it would be cold. And the egg would not have been fertelized so it was the chicken. If you ask why the chicken was there then it was because God put it there.

The egg. You see some, not-quite-chicken laid the first real chicken egg. Then, the egg hatched. Voila! Chicken.

The egg. They were laying eggs, although reptile, or dinosaur eggs, long before chickens came along.
Birds are said to be living decendents of Dinosaurs, so that should anwer that question.

Bored of this one. New question.
Which came first, the search function, or the user who couldn't be bothered to use it?
Please, stop asking this.
Incidentially... it was the f***ing EGG already!
EDIT: All you who said "chicken, because you need one to get an egg" - shame on you for NOT THINKING BEYOND THE QUESTION. What of duck eggs, for starters?
Anyone quoting a bible chapter and verse as a "source" - that's not valid evidence, sorry. It's a 2000 year old story book. Not suitable for answering this kind of fact-based question.

Chicken.
It evolved over time to get the ability to give birth via eggs. So you need a chicken to lay an egg, and that initial chicken came from evolution.
