Do you mean Indians (aboriginal groups) in the Americas? There were some groups who were primarily hunter-gatherers, and some who were quite sophisticated farmers. Which one they were depended mostly on the terrain and climate where they lived. Farming predominated in the tropical and warmer regions; hunting and gathering was mostly the way of life in the temperate and cold regions of the Americas.

Depends what era you are talking about. Initially the were hunter / gatherers. Which means they hunted for meat and foraged for fruit and vegetables. At some point they began to grow their own veggies but they always hunted.
