No, but apparently there is a movie that opens Aug. 25th, that is based on the classic children's book. But according to an article in The Toronto Sun, a newspaper in Toronto, Ont., Canada, it's about Billy who is 11 yrs. old, and takes on a bully's dare. This article in today's 'Life Section" (Thurs. Aug.24, 2006) was from The Associated Press, by Howie Rumberg from New York. The article includes on how to cook them, and other interesting facts, which kind of grosses me out. To each their own. I have listed the editor concerning this article, and maybe she would know who the author is.

About the Author

Thomas Rockwell is the author of a number of books for young readers. He was the recipient of the Mark Twain Award, the California Young Reader Medal, and the Sequoyah Award for How to Eat Fried Worms. He lives in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
How to Eat Fried Worms has happily repulsed children since its original publication in 1973. Now youngsters can experience this classic story in a whole new yucky way, by listening to it on audiocassette. Narrator Jay O. Sanders gives extra kick and vitality to this already lively yarn. He throws himself into the role of a 10-year-old boy, facing the most revolting bet of his life. Billy must eat 15 worms in 15 days--but the reward will be worth it: $50 for a shiny new minibike. Luckily, Billy's friends cook up these fat juicy grubs in a variety of appetizing ways--drenched in ketchup and mustard, fried in butter and cornmeal, and the pièce de résistance, a Whizband Worm Delight (an ice-cream worm cake). Sanders derives obvious pleasure from reading (and singing) out loud the hilarious rhymes and childish chants concocted from the mind of the book's author, Thomas Rockwell.

'Trout, Salmon, flounder, perch,
I'll ride my minibike into church.
Dace, tuna, haddock, trout,
Wait'll you hear the minister shout.'

How to Eat Fried Worms is a ghastly gastronomical treat that will dazzle young listeners. (Running time: two hours, two cassettes) --Naomi Gesinger

Book Description:
'Because of a bet, Billy is in the uncomfortable position of having to eat fifteen worms in fifteen days. A hilarious story that will revolt and delight bumptious, unreachable intermediate-grade boys and any other less particular mortals that read or listen to it.... Colorful, original writing in a much-needed comic vein.'--Booklist.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Growing up on Fried worms
Of all the books I have read in school (required and for pleasure) the one book that I remember reading and consider to be trademark of my youth was How to Eat Fried Worms.

Now as a teacher I enjoy sharing this wonderful book with my students! After all the boring stories we have to read, this one always get several laughs and a few ewwws but always a big hit.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Haha, I remember this.
When I was in elementary school, I remember reading this book. It's stomach-turning but it definitely appealed to me when I was younger. I highly reccomend it for kids.

How To Eat Fried Worms?! Ewww!! Doesn't that sound disgusting! This was a great book that was very interseting and humorous. This book is about a boy who is dared to eat worms for a certain amount of money. Some of his friends who dared him to eat the worms took him to a carnival and tried to brain-wash him. If they got him to forget about the worms before 12'o clockhe would have to pay his friends money for not doing it. the boy comes home and his mom wakes him up and says ''Dont you have to eat ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - How To Eat Fried Worms
This book is about a boy named Billy. He chose to take a dare from his friend, Allan. This dare has to do with Billy eating 15 worms in 15 days and getting $50.00 if he wins. Billy takes the dare because (1) he wants a minibike that costs $50.00 and (2) he takes any dare. I do recommend this book because you will be surprised to know what will happen...will he win or lose the bet, or will he get sick trying?

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I just gotta ask why
OK - I'm going to review this book, but I'm going to set it up first - maybe it's all the crap on TV that's made me so angry. I truly am disgusted with the disrespect the media has for our children. They'll let any sort of commercial fly and if my kids and I are huddled around the TV watching a football game or what is the best choice for a family show, the network will still manage to promote sex, alcohol, and killing about 5 times in every commercial break. You know, it's really sad! After War of ... Read More
