In your opinion (I already asked doctor, just want your opinion) how much longer until I go into labor. I know anywhere from 36-42 weeks but I want to know opinions. I have been sleeping all day and I have been having an unusual feeling in my stomach, not braxton hicks, is this the beginning of my contractions? How many centimeters do you have to be at the least to go into labor? Please answer all questions. Thanks!

You can go into labor at 1cm or at 9 cm... there isn't really a set "dilation size" that determines labor, just a combination of all the factors. I'm at 47 weeks and 1-2 cm dilated, I've been having Braxton Hicks and increased discharge. So...I think we're both in the "normal" bracket of things.
I can't predict when you'll go into labor... I've known women stay at 3-4 cm dilated for a week or two and then BOOM - there comes labor. I've known women who were barely dilated at all and then went into labor and progressed quickly. So you're body is preparing itself, that is for certain. As for a timetable, I have no clue. Just continue to pay attention to your body and prepare for the big day. Congrats and Good Luck!!! =)

Some women go into labor right where you are now. Others may not enter active labor until they are farther dilated, say 4-5 cm. You can walk around for weeks dialted a 3-4 and 100% effaced.....or you can be closed up tight as a drum and have a baby a few hours later. How far dilated you are now means nothing about when labor will come.

If you are having contractions you should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Being dehidrated makes the uterus irritable. Also your dr can put you on some tablets that help the uterus relax. At least for another two weeks. 36 weeks is too early. It take babies 40 weeks to mature. The earlier the baby the more chance of it having problems and you going home while your baby stays at the hospital.

Remember that labor has 3 phases and the first one can last very long, basically it's the time it takes to fully dilated. I was 35 weeks when i went to a check up and my docter said i was 3-4 centimeters and i was already in labor. he told me to come in the next day to the hospital to deliver and i did have the baby the next day (after responding to epitocin and him breaking the bag of waters)

hey girl...i have had 4 children and all were different BUT....i know for a fact that a hospital wont keep you unless you are a 4-5 cm dilalated! but you can be 2 cm for the rest of your time until either your water breaks or you start having contractions. now when i say contractions i mean the ones that STOP you dead in your tract...lol
so all you can do is rest and take it easy. if your 36 weeks you still got a few weeks to go. but relax it will all be over soon...and then you will have your new baby in your arms and wont even remember the pain at all. drink plenty of water!!!!! hope that helped! good luck! and CONGRATS!

I have been 1 cm dilated for 4 weeks now, also 100% effaced. I can go into labor at anytime, no one can tell you when you will go into labor. When your water breaks you will usually deliver within 24 hours though, due to the chance of infection.

When it is time you will go into labor.

I was dilated to 2 centimeters MONTHS before I had my daughter. Same for my first son.

Babies come when they are good & ready to come.

Labor starts any point in time. USUALLY at 4 - 6 centimeters.

There are several different factors in play. First, is this your first baby? Also, has your doctor said anything about your cervix - starting to thin out or still thick. Has he said anything about the position of the baby? All these things play a role when going into labor. GOOD LUCK!!

When I went in to labor I was not dialited at all with my daughter. Withing 24 hours of going in to labor you should experience a light pink discharge. When you see this....the time is approaching. Good luck
