PACK GOOD TOILET PAPER!!! When I had my children I was wishing I had packed some good toilet paper. After giving birth, using sand paper on your butt is very pleasurable!! Pack shampoo, soap, deoderant, pads, and also extra socks! Also, take some snacks for after delivery. Take something streatchy to go home in and to see visitors in! As for the baby....they will provide pretty much everything you need. They will give you diapers, bottles, blankets for your hospital stay. when you leave the hospital you will get to take home the left over diapers and formula. But, you'll need to pack blankets and go home clothes and maybe a few onsies in case you baby spits up a lot! Good luck!

A lot of great suggestions here.
I'm having a baby this November, my first was born during January '04. Depending on where you live, remember it will be winter. I had a big thick terry-cloth robe and slippers for roaming the hospital.
Here's what I brought last time that I won't be packing THIS time: books and DVD's and portable DVD player. Baby took up all my time that I thought I would have for just hanging out and reading or watching DVDs. The hospital TV was more than enough entertainment for me.
Depending how long you will be there for, I would bring some snacks that you like. Hospital food is kind of gross, so when I got hungry, I had some snacks from home that I could nosh on.

1. Pack 2 pairs of sleep ware. After having the baby you are going to be bleeding a lot and might end up getting a little blood on one night outfit and need a spare to wear the next day.
2. If you have a pillow you love and sleep well with, then you can take it.
3. Slip on shoes. You will be sore after labor and not in the mood to bend over and tie your shoes.
4. A couple of pairs of socks. Hospital floors are iffy. It is bettter to always have socks on to keep your feet from getting yucky from the floor. You just never know.
5. Shampoo and Conditioner. After labor, when they say it is ok, you will want to take a nice warm shower to make yourself feel better.
6. soap for the shower
7.Tooth brush and tooth paste. You will be having visitors. Don't scare them away.
8. Make-up. Like I said, you will be having visitors and someone may take some pictures of the new mommy and baby. You don't want to look horrible.
9. Brush and hair scrunches. Or else a head band. You wont want your hair in your face when your learning how to breast feed your baby.
10. A good supportive bra.
11. A baggy outfit to wear home. You don't wany anything that will be tight fitting.
12. They give you throw away underware to wear but you may decide you want to wear your own so pack 3 pairs. You might get some blood on them changing your pad so you want to be prepared.
13. A disposable camera so you can take pictures of family and friends that come and visit you. I know I took pictures of them holding my baby in the hospital and I put it in his baby book.
14. Have your baby's car seat already in the car.
I hope this has helped.
If I forgot anything, someone else will probably mention it.
Good luck and COngratulations.
P.S.
Order your epidural as soon as you get to the hospital.

When I had my baby I packed clothes for myself for my stay at the hospital (underware, nursing bras, etc), an outfit for my baby to go home in, diapers, pajamas for me to sleep in, things you use in the bathroom(toothbrush, deodorant, pads, etc),and slippers. That's what I packed and everything worked out fine for me. Don't froget the car seat! Can't take the baby home without a car seat. A camara is always a good idea too.

Besides all of the necessities, dont forget magazines and a camera!! Bring stuff that will make you feel pretty too, and remind you of home. Your favorite lotion, robe, slippers, makeup, razors. if you feel good, you will get better faster.
